Published 9th January 2022

Cork HTA

Provisional Programme

of Cork HTA webinars

The face-to-face seminar planned for late January will not go ahead due to Covid.

Instead, we are organising a number of Zoom webinars. Each webinar will feature a live presentation with Q&A. Each of the webinars will be advertised separately with full details for registration.

Christian O'Connor, St Mary's Secondary School, Mallow, will explore the teaching of 'A Unit of Learning on the Troubles in Northern Ireland'

- an important topic for later in Third Year

Stacy Stout, Temple Carrig School, Greystones, will analyse Written Answers to SEC Sample JC History Exam Paper Questions

- how can teachers help students improve their answers in the final exam?

Dr Caitríona Ní Cassaithe, Assistant Lecturer in History Pedagogy in DCU, will outline Strategies to Challenge Students' Misconceptions about History.

Edel Ní Loingsigh, Gaelcholáiste Charraig Uí Leighin, will present new teaching resources for JC History as Gaeilge

- This webinar will be conducted as Gaeilge for teachers who teach History through Irish.

Four LC History Student Seminars in March:

(1) Improving LC History Essay-writing

& (3) Preparing for the Topics:

Pursuit of Sovereignty

Dictatorship & Democracy

The USA & the wider world

Hopefully, we will be able to gather together in June to analyse the first written exam paper of the new JC History course. But there will also be a place for a Zoom meeting on that occasion to facilitate teachers who won't be able to attend a public meeting.
